Identify whether you have a fast or slow metabolism. Determine the calories you burn each day — on resting and exercise days — to reach and maintain your healthiest weight. Identify the minimum number of calories needed without slowing down your metabolism. Optimize your metabolism with an individualized nutrition plan.
Everybody talks about metabolism, but few of us really understand how our own metabolisms work. Metabolism is, in the most simple terms, what converts food and nutrients into energy. It’s on 24 hours a day/7 days a week. It’s an internal process in our bodies that determines how many calories we burn.
How fast, average, or slow your metabolism works is determined mostly by genes. We all have a friend that can down a large pizza and cheesecake, and they don’t gain a pound. Thinness, though, doesn’t equate health. And a fast metabolism can keep thin people deceptively unhealthy.
Body composition, gender, age, and hormones also play a role in our metabolism. Differences in metabolism are seen, often, in how easy it is to lose or gain weight. Those with slower metabolisms might struggle to lose weight, whereas those with fast metabolisms struggle to gain weight.
Your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is the minimum amount of calories your body needs to keep functioning. This is pretty significant, as it will determine your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE). Testing your RMR using a device called the BodyGem® can give our RDNs an accurate measurement of your calorie needs for weight loss, gain, maintenance, or improved sport performance. The information obtained helps us create a tailor-made program according to your individual needs.
With your RMR, our RDNs have the details to create a plan for your metabolism and body composition. You might need to increase your activity level. Or, you might need to adjust your nutrition. By using The BodyGem® resting metabolic rate testing, we can discover your unique needs.
